Very high pitched sound and loud
I have used two of these in parallel to keep moles out of my garden. Connected to a timer that offers a 15 minute cycle every one to two hours. I put them in a plastic drainpipe and buried them in the ground for a short time. It seems to be working great when all the toxic peanuts and other commercial products have failed. It's only been a few weeks but if they only last the rest of the summer I'll happily order new ones next spring. (NOTE) I was able to place them in the area upstream of the water flow in the clearing. They are not suitable for wet areas.
