My 2001 Honda Odyssey had a rupture in the power steering main pressure line causing the pump to run without adequate fluid and causing the power steering to whine that would not go away even after topping up. The service station replaced the hose but did not flush. Flushed a do-it-yourself power steering with flushing fluid (and I'm glad someone did this flushing as I've diligently scavenged for flushing fluid to properly clean the system). Filled with flushing agent, run through the system and washed off after 20 minutes. Added new power steering fluid, greatly reduced power steering noise but not gone, although steering is much lighter. I added a protective agent - slowly over several days the noise began to decrease, so it appeared only at startup, and after a month it completely disappeared. I know it's a protectant because the noise was reduced immediately when I added the protectant. This worked great for me!
