Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Powerful Suburban Manufacturing SW6DE RV Water Heater - 5239A | High Performance Heating for Your RV Journey by Bruce Willam

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not a quick job if not a direct replacement for the same model.

The block in my build was an old 6 gallon suburban block that didn't keep catching fire when hot water was used. Tired of cold showers so I bought this along with the parts listed in the 'Often bought together' section. Butyl was needed but the dash remote switch was a waste of money. This device is not equipped with a relay, which is required to use the switch. You will also need to connect a 110 volt plug. Luckily, my ice maker, which I don't use, is right next to the water heater on a 20 amp circuit, so there was an outlet behind it that I was able to easily plug into. I wanted to be able to heat with propane and electricity on a cold morning with the flick of a switch in the car. Need relay 232948. It was annoying. The new block will require you to use the old gas line from the old block to deliver gas from the back of the water heater to the front. I had a steel pipe with a socket and inverted sockets. It didn't fit the new tank and couldn't be bent the way I wanted. I bought a propane hose and 90 degree flare from Ace Hardware. I also had to reuse the hot and cold water fittings for the back of the tank. Mine are plastic and one of them has a small leak that I have yet to fix. The cover frame is held on the outside with 3 long screws. Of course, the old block used larger diameter bolts to attach the frame to the block. By this time it was almost dark, the hardware store was closed, and my significant other was worried about the plumbing. So I used 4 self tapping screws at a slight angle to the body to pull the frame in while tightening them. Luckily I had them. Before installing the frame I filled all the gaps in the tanks with high temp silicone including in the service department where the wires and prop guide passed. I don't want exhaust fumes getting into the car. There are no complaints about the water heater itself. Seems to be working well. For a few bucks more it could come with the part I mentioned and it wouldn't require an extra trip to the hardware store which is almost 20 miles away. I would happily pay a little more and then it would get a 5 star rating and I would be a happy backpacker. If you don't have a water heater bypass kit, I recommend installing one now. The Camco 35953 looks great and eliminates the need to reuse old nasty 1/2 connections from your old device. Optional Parts: Heavy duty 110 volt stud nuts or wire connectors 12 volt relay High temp silicone Optional parts for indirect replacement: Copper tubing, flare and flare tool, or quality propane hose.
