Review on πŸ”Š Black SMSL Q5 Pro Digital Audio Amplifier by Krista Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sounds great, but gets hot

. The topping amp never got hot, even when played hard on Pioneer Andrew Jones BS22 bookshelf speakers. I recently bought Bose Acoustimass 3 Series V speakers and due to the potential power requirements of the bass module I bought these as they are rated higher RMS than the topping amplifier. I have to say that it really works, especially when the bass module (or subwoofer, if you want to call it) is potentially reaching low frequencies due to the extra power available. However, this amp gets warmer but not hot to the touch. When it's on, it heats up whether it's playing or not. I'm a bit concerned that heat can shorten the life of the amp. My topping amp never gets hot and has served me well for over 5 years playing quite loud music in my living room and I hope this SMSL amp can at least live up to it.

Pros
  • is understandable even for the old
Cons
  • I upgraded from the topping TP20 Mk.2 amp to the old
