I got this for my son who is 3 years old and he will wear 5T shirts and 4T pants/shorts so they are a bit big for him so I ordered a size for 4-6 years old because I thought it would give him room to grow. The. Well, it's very big for him, but very cute. This corresponds exactly to the declared Sherpa material inside and out. It washes and dries very well, I would only caution against washing and drying separately as it falls off when washed with other clothes, but that was my fault, I didn't think about that when washing/drying. As for the thickness, I think it's a typical light sweater, our son is hot so this was perfect for him as the weather is starting to get warmer, but I think it will definitely be layered when we say that we wear it especially in winter where we live it definitely gets cold. I can also attest that my son loves this little hoodie, he loves the texture and was very comfortable and intrigued by the material. All in all I'm glad we got this, I'll keep getting what we can make of it until it gets too warm and then of course we can store it until the end of the year when it gets cold again.
