Husband bought the same belt. He loved him because he kept his phone in a holster and never moved. It started tearing after wearing it every day for two years. I ended up looking for a replacement for the one he made, came across this belt and ordered it an L. It fits him perfectly and he wears his Levi's almost every day. This belt fits just like the other belt he wore, also looks great wearing his suits, pants etc. The big one was just right and I ordered another one. Back up when newly worn. So far, so good. Looks good, no extra "overhangs". M would fit him but went for the big ones because of the jeans. Most things run small, my husband is 1.80m and has a 36 waist. Just to give an idea.
