Unique functional camera bag

This is quite a functional camera bag with many thoughtful design elements. The retro style but the backpack's unique layout and access to its compartments really sets this bag apart from others I've used. The backpack is specially designed as a dedicated camera bag with all-round padding. The main part of the backpack is divided into two compartments, one at the top and one at the bottom. You access the top compartment by unzipping the faux leather top flap and unzipping the drawstring to reveal a fairly roomy single compartment. The lower half is accessed through a padded zippered panel that rests against the lower back when the pack is worn. Featuring a series of padded dividers held in place by Velcro strips, this compartment is designed to hold your camera, lenses, batteries and other accessories. The camera compartment is also accessible via a second zippered panel on the side of the pack (to the wearer's left). This unique device is actually very handy to protect your photography equipment. I've uploaded some photos to show how the backpack is laid out with different compartments and openings. I can just open the side panel and pull out the camera without removing my backpack, but it's not a very smooth or quick maneuver. Storing the camera in this side pocket is a bit fiddly, so most of the time I just take off my backpack to put the camera away. There is a padded laptop compartment accessible through the top compartment. Your computer is located outside of the pack's two main compartments, rather than in the back like most daypacks. This arrangement can put your laptop at greater risk of abuse than if it were tucked lower next to your back. This pack is clearly designed to protect photographic equipment, not your computer. It works. Just remember that your computer is with you when you carry it in this backpack. Of course, you want to avoid rough treatment as much as possible. The carrying system includes beautifully designed padded shoulder straps and a sternum strap to keep it straight across your chest. On the outside of the backpack there is a practical flat pocket with a zip. It seems intended for paperwork or a thin book or two. Whatever you put in this bag, it can provide extra protection for your laptop. There is a mesh pocket and an adjustable tripod strap on the right side. I find it helpful for that. The upper valve is a mystery to me. It's a square two-layer thing made out of cheap faux leather. It fastens with quick-release buckles at the bottom two corners, and there's a zipper on the side that covers a relatively small pocket in the top flap. Not sure why the zipper doesn't allow access to the entire inside of the top flap. This would provide significant additional storage space that is largely unused in the current configuration. The top flap only slightly insulates the top compartment from the elements. Wind and water can easily get under the flap as it isn't actually cropped and contoured to effectively cover the top of the pack. Instead, the pack lives up to its claim of being "weatherproof” by using a separate rain cover that resembles a large, nylon-covered shower cap with an elastic band around the perimeter. Again, this works, but you'll need to carry the accessory with you so it can come in handy when you need it. I would have preferred a bag with waterproof fabric and zips, with a lid that rolls up and zips up to keep water out, and a contoured top flap that pulls down to protect from bad weather or splashes. It's the perfect camera bag for many fair-weather jobs, but it really doesn't look like the best choice for water adventures when you know you're going to get wet. I find the bag really suitable for carrying all the camera gear I need for daytime photography, with room for a snack or light lunch and maybe an extra layer of clothing. I like the package and I'm glad I got it. For now, I've decided to store my camera and many of my accessories in this set so I'll be ready to go whenever I need it. It's really very convenient. Let me know if you found anything in my review helpful.
