Well the water pump still works and it's done 150 miles now so I'm happy with it. What I don't like is that it doesn't look like the exact same pump other buyers have received. Pay attention to my photo. I proceeded with the installation anyway because I had to use the van and couldn't wait to go back and buy a replacement, but didn't feel like doing the replacement as the pump I pulled out didn't really work was leaking (was I preventive maintenance) And the pump that was pulled out supposedly had a better turbine design. Well I hope everything is ok. By the way, removing the old pump was URGENT! What finally worked for me was spraying a penetrating lubricant on the flange area and hitting the aluminum pump housing with short 2x4 and 4 pound sledgehammers. In total I probably spent about 1.5 hours removing the old pump. Also, I used a "rust remover" radiator flush in a 2005 Passat a few weeks ago, but 3 weeks after this flush the head gasket blew out, so be careful using rust remover fluids in the radiator system I think. They can remove dirt or possibly even head gasket material, which can then cause the "head gasket" to leak.
