Review on TRENDnet Wireless Gaming Adapter TEW 647GA by Aaron Parish

I bought this router because we have a 847 model and use it for a computer but I just needed to connect an old laser printer with it integrated Ethernet port for JetDirect; and didn't want to spend money on a more expensive model. The setup on this one was terrible. I tried using the included CD on two different Windows 7 machines; and it never listed the router when it got to the Find Device screen. I've also tried connecting to the router from a web browser on these computers and on my Mac. I gave up and sent a request to Trendnet. To their credit they answered me very quickly; and her instructions were accurate. Here' detailed setup instructions: * Connect your router. * Use a paper clip to press and hold the reset button on the bottom for at least 15 seconds. (The lights didn't change at all during this). Release the reset button.* Disconnect the router from the network for at least 15 seconds to allow it to complete the "reset" cycle, and then plug it back in.* Connect the router to your computer ( Mac is fine - that's what I used and that's 10 times). It's easier to change the settings in the next step) * Set your computer to have a fixed IP address of 192.168.10.10 and a subnet of 255.255.255. 0 used. doesn't seem to work in Safari) go to 192.168.10.110* username "admin" (without quotes)* no password* admin button, link management: set a useful but non-empty password. * Wireless network button, profile link: create a wireless network profile to use your home network by entering SSID etc. Check the box next to it. * Go to the Network tab and make sure it's using a fixed IP instead of DHCP. I changed it to something I could distribute around my home network and had my Apple base station match the MAC address to give it the same IP every time. (If you tell it to connect via DHCP, you don't know what address it will get, and you cannot go back to the admin webpage.) * After saving this setting, it is saved 99% seems never to end. Does not matter. Use a new IP address that you assigned on the previous screen in the browser instead of the default one and you should be back in business. *To test this, I disabled wireless on my Mac, turned off my router, switched my Mac back to DHCP, and connected my router to the Ethernet port. I have successfully connected to the internet with the Trendnet device.
