Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Fixed Lens - Discontinued by Manufacturer by Bong Cha ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality is top notch and I recommend the product for purchase.

After I bought myself a 50 / 1.8, I practically stopped shooting on a whale 18-55 IS. I take almost all the pictures (95 percent, if not more) for fifty dollars, despite the fact that I always carry a whale lens with me just in case. I sometimes use a kit only where a wide end or a stub is needed (this is a video and manual focus). I will only note that 50 / 1.8 requires some care when autofocus is working - at an open aperture, the depth of field becomes very small and, therefore, the slightest errors are immediately evident. Contrary to popular belief, my fifty dollars catches focus well in backlight. But the exposure of the frame still makes the picture of poor quality - I'm still not going to buy a lens hood. For the money, the lens is just perfect :)

Pros
  • Excellent aperture, price, sharpness, compactness
Cons
  • Relatively long end on crop, no stub, small number of aperture blades
