Review on Super Talent Pico-C Gold USB 2.0 Flash Drive, 4 GB: STU4GPCG by David Monaco

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great little USB stick if you have a good one

I recently bought 4 of these little 8GB USB sticks. I was immediately struck by its size and performance. The USB stick looks very solid and the read/write speed is much faster than other USB sticks I've used. One of the four drives ordered was defective. I had no problems reading or writing files to either, but one of the drives caused my Pioneer CDJ-400 to malfunction when I was using it to store and play music. Upon further investigation, I found that this ONE drive was drawing more current than any other USB drive, suggesting it was defective. These things suck - if you get a good one, cheers! Compact size, excellent performance. If you get a bad one, you'll lose $15 if you have 4GB, $20 if you have 8GB, $30 for 16GB, or up to $70 for 32GB. Apparently super talent hasn't figured out quality control yet. I've heard a lot of bad things about USB flash drives in general from different people and also from my own experience lately, and I've learned that there are many BAD USB products out there. This one is fine. Some of them are good, some are bad. 75% of the super talented top end drives I've bought work. I also tried a plug and forget Nano USB stick (aka MosKeyto) - 50% of them were faulty (out of 2). Another product I've tried is PNY 4GB - $12 at Wal-Mart. It works (100% - 1 out of 1 purchased), tested and correct, albeit much slower than Supertalent Pico. Moral of the story: I think this can be a good product, but don't trust it! Once you get yours, run a few tests. Read and write normally? If you plug it into a hub with other USB connectors, does your computer say "too much power" when the Pico is plugged in? Compare it to other discs. If everything is fine, you might have found a good one.
