My daughter has beautiful pink beaded Medic Alert bracelets. Not only did they cost about $30 a piece, but it cost the same to repair. (They seem to last around 8-10 months.) Not to mention it takes weeks for a jeweler to fix the bracelet she has to wear! They are no longer made, probably because they kept breaking down. However, we had two broken ones. Decided to buy a jewelry repair kit. I mean seriously, my daughters have used a lot of bead kits to make their own baby jewelry. how hard can it be It turns out to be very hard! Now I understand why the repair costs are so high. I know it was my first time but it took me at least an hour to fix both bracelets. But I did it! I saved money and acquired a valuable skill for the future. I am now confident that I can fix future broken bracelets and some necklaces. TIPS: It would be easier if I had more light. And sometimes a second pair of hands. I wore reading glasses but a good stand magnifier would be a real plus. PROS: - He did his job. CONS: - The kit stinks to high heaven. After I was done with that, I re-wrapped it in the plastic wrap it was in. It was so bad - Some items (tweezers and tape measure) were sticky - There were grease stains on the tweezers. I started to wonder if I got a used kit! - No wire cutting tool included! I tried using thicker wire but my strongest scissors couldn't cut it. I managed to cut some wire in a small plastic bag, but my first few cuts weren't perfect, and I need them to be perfect to thread something through.
