Unfortunately broke after 2 days

My kids got this for Christmas, the shutter/light function broke after 2 days. Don't get me wrong, my kids are rough with toys at ages 2 and 4. But really, how do you rip the guts out of the base game? In any case I will take it apart to find the broken wire.
