Original tank rusted. This allowed the rust to get back into the system even if it was flushed or replaced. If you are performing a coolant service and your reservoir cannot be cleaned (it is best to remove it for cleaning) then it will need to be replaced. Cheap insurance against future expenses. From experience we bought a car that just had the water pump replaced and the coolant serviced. The pump broke within a year. When opening the system there was terrible corrosion. I had to chemically flush the system and replace everything but the heater core, and I had to backwash it to remove rusty clogs. I didn't want to risk saving $30 on this complicated and expensive job and I suspect whoever did the previous service didn't clean the tank which likely made the problem worse. What about this tank? Fits, looks good and clean. Cheap insurance against future problems.
