Review on OWC 250GB Mercury Electra 3G SSD, 2.5-inch SATA 7mm Solid State Drive by Terrance Singletary

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent SSD, MAYBE NOT SO FAST BUT GOOD

This drive is well priced and works well, but it's nowhere near as fast as my SanDisk SSD. I load them into Atomos hard drive cases and use them for video recording. I used the Blackmagic Design Disc Test Utility to test this and other discs. SanDisk consistently delivers around 350MB of read and write performance, while OWC drives deliver 250MB of read and write performance. My spinning hard drives barely manage 80MB reads and writes in the same test, and they're fast 7200rpm drives. I use these SSDs in my DAW with Logic, it's a Mac Pro Cylinder computer. I copied 12GB of data from one SSD to another in less than a minute, good. When I have a lot of recording sessions, I need to create backups quickly. With them I can support customers very quickly. Happy arithmetic everyone!
