Ready to use I first turned it on and connected it to my computer with a USB cable (not included!) and updated the software by going to their website - whole easy. Then I held down one of the three phone buttons until it blinked, turned on bluetooth on my phone and waited for them to pair (it took about 10 seconds). I chose Xlink to pair among other possible devices - it is clearly marked on the mobile phone screen. As soon as the Xlink button lit up, I picked up my remote phones and voila, the dial tone rang as usual. My first call went great and the sound quality was excellent. The pulse signals when selecting the menu also worked perfectly. Also, I moved away from its three foot range and came back later and it automatically reconnected after a few seconds. If you want to take advantage of your old home voice remote phones and save on landline, BUY IT! By the way, I decided to use Internet Call Routing (I have a radio modem at home). I don't know if calling through a cell tower would make a difference. UPDATE: I've set my cell phone to call on the cell tower, not on wifi. This way it sent out a louder signal and created some distortion at the other end. I reduced the signal sent to my cellphone using a parameter from Xlink (the instructions on the site are easy). This eliminated distortion at the other end. I bet a lot of the bad voice quality reports are because you didn't read the documentation and didn't set the levels properly. You only have to do this once.
