I thought breastfeeding was natural and easy. Not correct. My nipples quickly cracked and bled, escalating into an even more serious injury. How could it be worse? My sweet little girl, who I quickly named my little snapping turtle, gnawed away layers of skin. I didn't even know it was possible. Looks like parts of my nipple are missing. So now I'm lying in bed at 3am shaking from my daughter's hungry screams because I knew I had to feed her, but to do that I had to lie down at the nursing altar. For three weeks I suffered and cried. During this time I tried all the tricks described in the book. an abundance of creams, salt baths, APNO cream, etc. nothing helped me to heal because I had literally huge open sores (yes, I got mastitis too). Finally my mother found these mugs. These little miracle cups. The first day I put them on, not only was I able to put on a shirt, I felt relieved to see healing taking place. As if the clouds parted and the angels sang. I only took them off to feed them and will continue to wear them throughout the trip as it prevents future problems. As my daughter had severe lip and tongue attachment and had to have surgery to correct it, it still takes time to retrain her mouth and get a good grip. Even though their grip isn't perfect, I can still breastfeed with ease because these cups prevent injury while helping me heal. I know this is a very long review, but I am so thrilled with this product that I wanted to share my entire story so you can get an accurate idea of just how valuable this product is. So you might be wondering if there are any downsides. Yes, sometimes they leave a small compression ring. A small price in my opinion and regardless of the compression I still find them very comfortable to wear. Added bonus: it protects my nipple from rubbing on a bra or nursing pads. Also other reviews say that you look like Madonna. Maybe if you're wearing a super thin shirt with an unpadded bra. But honestly, I didn't have that experience. I only wear them with nursing pads between the bra and cup and you don't notice it. That's it. The only two possible downsides. So invest in them. I'm telling you it saved me and allowed me to continue breastfeeding.
