Review on Enhanced Noise Reduction Koss QZ-99 Stereophone - Standard Packaging by Brian Cheney

Passive noise canceling headphones.

Love these headphones and this is my second pair. I don't remember exactly what happened to the first ones. No pros, no cons, these are big headphones, for me that's normal, but for others they might be too big. Pros: - Solid construction - Passive noise cancellation - Comfortable - Good long cable. Cons: - not as loud as one might expect (if they weren't good at passive noise cancellation this would be a bigger issue, they're loud enough for me, but if you expect big sound from big headphones you'll be disappointed). The volume knob on the left earbud is poor quality (When you nudge the knob it sounds like someone is rubbing the mic against something, not a big deal if you can set it and forget it.) EDIT: Lost a star. As they age, the volume knob becomes more of a problem (maybe that happened to my first pair?). There were times when even touching the volume knob meant the left speaker was completely muted and I had to fiddle with it for 10-20 seconds to get it back to where I wanted it. I suspect this is a problem due to cheap parts, electrical connections and dust. I've had them for almost 2 years now and if I knew what parts to buy I would try to fix them because they are heavy duty and have excellent passive noise cancellation. So yes, there are options: buy something that sounds better but will soon fall apart, or buy something where the electronics are the weak point. In this case, I would pay twice as much for the best electronics!

Pros
  • Ideal for use with racing scanners and metal detectors
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others
