The OWC Thunderbay 8 Flex enclosure has a PCI 3.0 expansion slot and allows you to replace the pre-installed SATA card with a RAID card, but do that not her. Do not make recommendations for compatible cards to convert an enclosure into a hardware RAID module as they attempt to encourage the use of SoftRAID. I needed a hardware solution for a RAID array and this card ran without any additional cables/adapters and everything has been smooth so far. I only connected 2 drives but it fits 8. Really impressed as similar RAID cards cost double or more.
