I seem to be in 4th or 5th place right now (including the SmartWool Merino Balaclava). For some reason I can never understand where they are going, but I love the SmartWool Merino hats so much I don't want to try any others. They breathe very well and are very versatile. I wore it under a helmet, cycling in the snow, cross country skiing, as a hat for running, and then just for everyday use (and under headphones). It offers an amazing amount of warmth and performs well across a wide range of temperatures (fall, winter, and spring in North Carolina). I will probably lose the one I have now before the end of the year and I will certainly burst into tears. and just buy another one to replace when I do.
