Review on ๐Ÿ”’ Fellowes Shredmate 37788: Efficient Cross Cut Shredder for Secure Document Disposal by Devin Jirsa

Fit for intended use

Conclusion: Works well as intended. Don't overload it and it will last for years. Can I recommend it to a friend? Yes, but only if he needs something small. Pros: Shreds documents into small pieces, compact size, reverse button. Cons: Can only hold a few pages at a time, not designed for thick paper, CDs or credit cards, tray fills up quickly, requires regular disassembly and lubrication, inconsistent customer service We and a friend bought one of these machines in 1999. We've had ours for over 10 years years. It lasted about six months; Fellowes will not repair/replace it after a second failure next year. We got our money from that. In my opinion, a paper shredder works great when you only want to shred a few pages at a time. It's small enough to fit on a small shelf when not in use. I agree with others who point out that the design is cumbersome when deflating, which needs to be done about every 30 pages. It also helps to take it apart every year or so to clear the stray confetti from the gears and lubricate it. Also worth noting is the presence of a fuse under the top cover to protect the fragile circuit board. Ours finally gave up after a surge caused by a lightning strike. We replaced it with a larger machine that could handle more pages, sometimes staples, CDs, and credit cards. The downside is that the newer one is used just as often but takes up a lot more space.

Pros
  • Other office equipment
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
