Review on Clever Creations Matryoshka Traditional Decorative Item by Gerardo Cibrian

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very cute, solid, well made

I've always loved the idea of these matryoshka dolls and this funky set was too cute to pass up. They are made of wood. The wood itself appears to be of good quality and there are no obvious material defects. The set includes 5 dolls: polar bear, penguin, raccoon, owl and squirrel. The paint job is pretty good, but there are a few minor blemishes here and there - it's reasonable to assume they're actually hand-made. Some colors don't quite match, but that's not bothersome or "bad". It would be nice to apply a second base coat as it feels a bit thin in places but nothing wrong with that. I weighed each doll and found that the polar bear weighed 116 grams, the penguin 55 grams, the raccoon 29 grams (1 ounce), the owl 11 grams and the squirrel 5 grams. The pieces fit together very well. The two halves of the different dolls fit together well, but can be easily separated with little effort and put back together very easily. You may have to twist a bit to align the two halves, but it's not difficult. My polar bear has a small gap where the two pieces don't fit perfectly - the seam is clearly visible, but I don't find that unusual. These dolls have no obvious odor, neither chemical nor woody. There are tool marks on the inside of the wood, but it's smooth and I wouldn't worry about splinters or splinters. As with any wooden object, this is a risk, but in general it's not worth worrying about. Varnished on the outside, raw wood on the inside without shellac or varnish; You can add this if you like. Overall I am very happy with this set. It might not be the best out there, but it's cute and durable and won't fall apart if handled roughly. My biggest complaint was that it was too tight in the box it came in and I had a little trouble getting it out. it's from. I ended up opening the bottom of the box and sliding in, so if your kit gets stuck, here's the trick.
