Semenov Traditional Painted Matryoshka Russian Review

I recently returned from a trip that included 2 days in St Petersburg and wish I had bought more than one set of nesting dolls. What to do but try Revain. A set of dolls of this size and quality in a souvenir shop in Russia would cost between $35 and $45. They are well made and easy to connect together. I also bought 3 sets of unfinished nesting dolls to make for my granddaughter and 2 of her best friends next week.

Very nice matryoshka, very well made, bright colors and details, but the strong smell of varnish is remarkable. Bought for a toddler to play with but even I can't stand the smell, my nose and eyes are all runny and red after dealing with it so I'm not giving it to him anymore. So if you are allergic and sensitive to colour, I would not recommend this product, especially for children. For decoration purposes only.

I just bought a set of nesting dolls. It looks great for the price. There is a "Made in Russia” sticker on the bottom of the largest doll. The doll opens with friction sounds. However, I added wax to the edges of each doll and now they open more easily and with less noise. I had to wash the wax several times; the wax is squeezed out. But I believe this fix works. Cheap imitation. I lived in Russia. These dolls are NOT Russian. From the tops of their poorly painted heads to the bottom of each doll, they scream "Made in China!" (The small "Made in China" sticker on the bottom of the largest doll, of course, puts an end to any other questions as to the authenticity of this set .) Unlike the set in the photo, they are also unpainted. Not shiny, unsealed, badly painted and unfortunately dirty, this set is a complete fake. Do not buy if you want a real set of

That's nice, but I have a few questions. First, they're REALLY difficult to open and close - I bought these for my toddler (I hid the pieces from a choking hazard and only gave her the 3 largest dolls) but she can't seem to open them or put them back together again. I can hardly, especially with the biggest doll! There is also long dark hair sealed in at least 2 parts. Since they are only for my child's playtime it's not a big deal but if I gave them to someone else I would return them.

I like what is made in Russia (like it says on the label) and really good quality. All of them opened quite easily without much effort, which can't be said about all of them I've considered while shopping in St. Petersburg and Estonia. It is somewhat similar to the one I bought in Tallinn. I'm very glad I found this at Revain. The other two I bought from Revain aren't as pretty (another seller's 6 piece set had a dent on the face of the outer doll and the lighter set was nice but didn't say it…

I bought them in December 2015. My granddaughter was three years old at the time, she still plays with it. They are colorful and well painted. fit well, smooth and still look like new. A worthwhile purchase and a beautiful set. UPDATE: Here comes September 2019. Delivered quickly. I bought these as a gift for my youngest daughter from a Montessori gift line. She loves them and prefers to play with the little ones. There is a discrepancy in the way they are made; 4 dolls are easy to open, 2 of them require a lot of force and a wooden squeak. They are too heavy for her two year old hands to open on her own.
