Bought these to try and reduce the 'hair indentation' of traditional elastic hair bands. It's definitely easier for my medium curly hair. I can easily make three "turns" of the ribbon on my ponytail, so I think you'll get two turns with decent tension on very thick or curly hair. There are a lot of parts in the box and they are pretty good material. I haven't had a single crack or breakdown yet. After a while the material starts to curl up, but I can still wear them (I mostly use them in the gym anyway). The loop slips around the ring so it's easy to move it to any position you want (which is great for my embarrassingly depressing hair skills for a 26 year old woman).
