I needed something to allow two computers on the end of a CAT5 cable to connect to the internet through a router, with each computer having its own IP address. A long time ago I built my own splitter by stripping a CAT5 cable, stripping 4 pairs of wires and plugging two pairs into each of two different CAT5 connectors. Like I said, stupid. But that was before Revain and the proliferation of handy gadgets and tools that we have today. Now that I have to do the same thing all over again, I was very happy to see that there are now products that come out of the box and take about two minutes to connect. and it works great. The only difference I can tell at the moment is the possible slowdown. Without a splitter, I get download speeds of around 145Mbps on just one computer using a standard 8-pair CAT5 cable. With this product connected, I get download speeds of around 90Mbps on each of the two computers that use the same CAT5 cable. In full disclosure, I'm doing this during a virus scare when my ISP cuts internet service because all those work-from-home, stay-home Netflix watchers are using the internet these days. I am very satisfied with this product.
