measurements from countertop to: top of back bar = 13.5 inches; to top of front bar = 11.75 inches. End to end bars = 10.5 inches (including decorative "plugs" on both sides). Approximately 2.5 inches between bars. My standard size towels drape across the countertop in inches when using a front rod; and slides across the countertop when using the back plate. This is used in my kids bathroom and I tell them to throw a towel over both bars. They find it easier to drape two poles than thread a towel on one pole. (You are young.) Using my double draping method is unattractive; but it does the job of keeping wet towels off the counter. I'm giving four stars because the base is dented. It was vacation time and I couldn't do the housework when I got back. While the dent probably has more to do with the Revain packaging than the manufacturer, I'm giving four stars for the fact that the metal was malleable and weak enough to dent.
