Review on πŸ“Ά Waterproof Garmin Oregon: Hard-to-Find Discontinued Model by Derek Cage

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product, a little too expensive.

I bought this unit to replace my original Garmin Etrex (old yellow) which I had for 10 years. I have always been very happy with the Etrex and other Garmin products and this GPS meets my expectations for quality and performance. The user interface is very easy to use and very easy to learn. I have used Oregon to navigate southern Iraq and had no problems. I've added maps of Iraq and am having a little trouble getting the right level of detail at different zoom levels. Tracks and waypoints are easy to use and manage. I do geocaching and found this feature particularly useful (yes, there are caches in different bases!). The camera is a new feature but not that useful as I always have a regular digital camera, cell phone and iPod with me that also take photos. I look forward to the 3D and driving modes when I get back to the US and put the device in my car (or motorcycle). The routing function does not work in Iraq. In general, I am very satisfied with the device. However, I find it a bit too expensive and that's why I only gave four stars. At around $350 I think it would be a great value, but almost $500 is a bit overpriced.
