The curling iron has blades that extend beyond the bottom edge on one side so you can curl your hair at the ends. The other side is just smooth, like an iron. I like to wear straight hair with a twist at the end. The trick to doing this is to make sure the side of the blade is facing you when you look in the mirror. As you go through this section of hair, bend it so that the ends touch the blade. I have a hard time putting my hair back. The ends just look straight like a plank (but not attractive I guess). I'm learning to arch my back with it. As my barber says, working on your own head from behind is difficult! It has 3 tempos: 340-400-4xx (never used the highest). I wanted my hair extensions and straighteners not to break and my old flat iron not to have a temperature. I find the 340 cooler than my old one. I have another flat iron that curls on one side and straightens on the other; It works better on full curls than straight ones and is more difficult to work with. This one is great for straightening, which is what I do most of the time, and with the ultimate curl/curl.
