The headline here might sound a little melodramatic, but I'm serious: wearing these shoes next to a wet, slippery surface is a lot worse than playing Russian roulette, where you only lose a one in six chance. These shoes will make you slide. Almost guaranteed. The idea of them counting as boats would be funny if it weren't so ridiculous. Sperry needs to know how dangerous they are but doesn't seem wanting to do the engineering work needed to protect them, not just on boats but anywhere. Walking on wet grass: slipping. Walking on wet roads: slipping. On the boat deck or by the pool: goodbye, my beautiful Spaniards. I've had about 10 pairs of these shoes in the last 25 or 30 years. I wear them every day when I go to the beach or to a restaurant. Something changed three or four years ago. I don't know what, but the slip problem wasn't really an issue that day. Now. It really is like that. I still love the style, comfort and unparalleled versatility of the TopSider. But when I'm in a dangerous situation, like going for a walk, I put on a different pair of shoes. I wish I still loved TopSiders, but I don't. I'm afraid of them, I, an adult, am afraid of a pair of shoes.
