Best review here - perfect for seniors and kids!

There are 3 main complaints about these silicone sponges: 1. They are too soft/don't come off2. They are short-lived and will eventually crumble or the bristles will become sticky3. They smell bad, I'm deducting a star because the thing smelled really awful out of the box. It had a very chemical, pervasive odor. So much so that I was afraid to use it while it still smelled. I think it's a mildew remover chemical as it was mainly the bristles that smelled, not the backing. So I soaked it in vinegar overnight and it got rid of 90% of the smell. Then I used it and everything was fine. In terms of durability, I chose this particular scrubber because it didn't have the negative reviews that many other non-black scrubbers have. Well we'll see and if mine has problems I'll update this review. About the lack of peeling, that's spot on: the thing is very soft. But that's why I wanted it, because it's for my elderly father, whom I bathe. Using a washcloth is rough on his skin, so I used a plastic mesh washcloth. It was ok and easier to moderate in terms of cleaning action, but still lacking in that it soaked up a lot of soap without getting on the skin. Trying to rinse the washcloth afterwards was instructive as it took a lot of water to get all the soap off of it. Now I use this silicone scraper. Fiction. I can use it on my dad's face and in his ears with ease, and it's soft yet gets into all nooks and crannies. It spreads soap better than a washcloth because it doesn't absorb soap. Washing takes 5 seconds. Also, it can be used in the microwave. After use, I turn it off for 30 seconds to sanitize. I've also done this with washcloths and washcloths. This will wear down the washcloth sooner, FYI. I strongly recommend the manufacturer to make variations of it. I would recommend something with thicker bristles that actually has noticeable exfoliation. Or make the bristles cross-shaped or star-shaped. These silicone brushes are a great idea, but they require some work. UPDATE: March 27, 2021 I've been using this thing 2 times a week for almost half a year. No problem. After the first 2 months I stopped putting it in the microwave; It cleans perfectly and dries fast enough that I didn't feel the need to disinfect it. Although I have not used it for such purposes, it is also ideal for washing children.

Pros
  • Standard of hygiene
Cons
  • Big and bulky
