This is my second light. I bought 1 to put in a hallway that was 100 years old (the house is 102 years old). I bonded the ceiling with new studs and drywall 30 years ago. When redesigning the corridor I added this light. I liked it so much I added another where the old rebar was hanging. The old bracket was screwed on 2x4. I was able to cut my hole with a knife and turn the light the other way with the wires to fit the 2x4 without cutting the 2x4. I now have plans to buy 4 3 inch lights to place in the bathroom. 2 over the sink, 1 over the toilet and 1 over the shower. They take up little space to fit. Place the box somewhere, ei. Under no circumstances should the box be assembled. Has a nice little washer for sealing on smooth surfaces, but if you have a textured surface the washer makes for a nice clean, almost flush fit. FYI, I've heard of people breaking spring clips. My rule of thumb is to place the clamps in the direction as if I were removing the light (1 left, 1 right), this way the plate can be easily swapped out if it needs replacing.
