I wear 9.5in wide and they fit as expected. They feel hard, not soft (if you're familiar with fins, they usually come in either hard or soft styles). I used them in Florida - took them to the springs over the weekend. I have full fins but sometimes they are superfluous. In Springs you just snorkel and basically kick the river. It's efficient. They definitely have an extra boost in your kick - but they're a lot easier to carry around - I carried them in my bag with towel, sunscreen etc so you don't have an extra bag just for your gear. If I were to go to Hawaii to snorkel off the ocean reefs, I would bring full fins. They are perfect for springs - or even pools, lakes etc where you need strength but can handle short fins.
