I like it. good for hard drive enclosures

I've had one of these for about six months and now I've bought a second one for my wife's computer. I've never used the clone feature, so I can't comment on that. I use this as a cheap and easy way to connect hard drives to my Mac computer (I used it with a Windows 7 computer originally and it worked with that too). This does exactly what I want: it allows me to use less expensive internal hard drives than external drives with my iMac. It works with Time Machine (although I've never had to use it to fix a broken computer, so I can't confirm) and also works as a good dock for external hard drives. I prefer using internal hard drives over dedicated external drives because it allows me to keep multiple backups of important files and photos inexpensively. received a message stating that it was not ejected properly. It was frustrating to just restart the device, but it didn't result in data corruption as the connection only dropped when the laptop was asleep. I've never had this problem with an iMac, so I suspect it has something to do with the power saving settings on the laptop. So far I'm very happy with the thing and to the question "Would I buy again" I answered "Yes, I bought a second one for the second family computer. IMPORTANT NOTE: When installing a new raw hard drive with an iMac, I found that the new drive must be in the front slot, slot B. If installed in slot A, the computer will not recognize the drive. No problem in slot B. After formatting, it doesn't matter which slot I use, it works fine. I'm guessing it has something to do with how this thing is cloned?

Pros
  • great for a small house
Cons
  • low maintainability
