As already mentioned, the polarity of this cable is REVERSE. The red wire (positive) connects to the outside of the chassis connector and the black wire (negative) connects to the center of the chassis connector, which in most cases is the reverse of how it should be connected. I'm not aware of any application of this reverse polarity design, so to my knowledge it's a defective cable! Rather than going back I decided to cut and beef up the wires while maintaining correct polarity.
