I used this case to access a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe drive. Seems to work very well, especially for the price. I haven't tried it with NGFF yet. At first I was hoping that the fan/heatsink would have a thermal pad as I saw in a review on YouTube ("Aikonpu NVMe SSD Case with Cooling Fan! - REVIEW"). Unfortunately, as another reviewer noted, a thermal pad was not included, so the drive doesn't make contact with the top heatsink/fan. The whole body is aluminum so I'm not sure what problem that causes. I ran a recursive grep search on the drive, which took about 1TB, and scanned the outside of the case. It seemed to heat up to around 45 degrees Celsius, I think, as it was hardly uncomfortable to hold, but it never got too hot. This little fan seems to be doing something! Despite this, I never heard a sound even when I put it to my ear. I also ran a simple drive test and got close to 8Gb/s (1000MB/s) read speeds when connected through the Thunderbolt port. My typing speed was slower, but I'm not sure what slowed down my typing speed on this quick test. The average access time was quite good. Installing the drive was fairly easy, but one screw requires a small Phillips screwdriver. There is an elastic band that holds the disc. I think it might not stay in place with the shorter disc, but my size 2280 disc fits well and stays in place perfectly. The fan lights up and changes color. I don't care about different colors but it's nice to know when the fan is running as it's almost inaudible. There's also a small blue LED that blinks when the drive is being accessed. After some time without access, the light will turn off when it goes to low power. I wish it had thermal padding but can't bring myself to take a star off my rating as it seems to run pretty cool without one. I may update this if adding a thermal pad helps a lot, but even if it helps I probably won't change my 5 star rating. heatsink/fan to make it work even better without the plastic wrap), ran a recursive grep and compared the temperatures before and after adding the heatsink. It used to be about 45 degrees. C (checked again), and after that it was definitely less than 42, probably around 38-40 degrees. C. It used to be a little uncomfortable to hold in hands, but after that it was warm but not uncomfortable. It would be nice if they included a thermal pad, but temperatures are very reasonable even without.
