Review on Speakman S 4001 E15 Reaction Fixed Shower by Alison Parker

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Comparison of Speakman and Glacier Bay shower heads at 1.75 GPM.

I bought a 1.75 gallon shower head expecting it might feel like 2.5 gpm or close enough. I also bought a 1.75 gallon Glacier Bay showerhead from Home Depot over Black Friday weekend to compare them and see which showerhead was the best. I have city water with very good pressure, but I'm trying to reduce my water consumption. The differences between them are very significant. First, the speaker wins in the looks category, and the noise level from the showerhead is practically zero. For example, if you call someone else at the bathroom door, you can easily hear them in the shower. . But that's where his strengths end. Even at 1.75 with my faucets maxed out, the water flow still only felt like 1.5 gpm or less and its flow was weak like the old water saving shower head I used to use. It takes quite a while to rinse off a really good lather. The Glacier Bay I bought from Home Depot (you can find this model if you look at the Home Depot flyer on Black Friday 2019) was a shower and wand combo, but I'm just comparing showerheads. The Glacier Bay model is very noisy, there is a constant "cha cha cha" sound as the water flows through the shower head, you definitely don't hear anyone on the opposite side of the door when you're in the shower. However, the 1.75 GPM flow rate is excellent. Glacier Bays shower head feels light like a 2.5GPM shower head, covers a much larger body area and gives you a much better feeling of water falling on your body. People with long hair can flush much faster than with a speaker. Both showerheads have their pros and cons, but I prefer the Glacier Bay model. I can endure the cha-cha sound knowing I'm still conserving water and getting much better water flow and performance.
