Does not heat up and will not work with the Wii U console

I bought these for use with the Nintendo Wii U in place of a large external hard drive with a couple of cables. I thought this adapter would be perfect. Small and compact. When connected to the Wii U it gets very hot/hot. Worked 1 day, today the big game (20GB) stopped loading. Failed to disable storage device. So I replaced that adapter with the SanDisk version and hope it performs better than this adapter. The SanDisk adapter does not get very hot.
