I could never bring myself to pay for Comply foam ear tips. I wouldn't even say that such a consultation is mandatory, but it has some advantages. In my opinion, they work best if the silicone-like tips are causing pain in the ear canal or if you have some odd-shaped ear canals. The problem is putting them on. You have to somehow squeeze the coil and squeeze it into a shape small enough to fit in your ear canal and push it in before it expands too much to fit. You often accidentally block the sound port of the headphones. So you have to tug on the earcups while doing all this "kneading". Once in your ear, the heat from your ear canals tends to cause these things to expand fairly quickly. You can find different sizes here, but I always prefer medium regardless of the type of earbuds. These foam ear tips can boost bass and dampen high frequencies. This may not be acceptable to you, but if your headphones seem to be lacking in bass, you might want to give them a try. Like I said, I can get by with or without headphones. I just like trying different things. The silicone tips don't really hurt me unless I wear them for about 3 hours or more. In my opinion the change in sound isn't great as I'm at an age where I've lost some high frequencies and can't feel them anymore. I don't need to reduce these noises. For the price, you won't be too offended if they don't meet your needs. If comfort is more important than sound, this might be what you're looking for.
