Six Months of Use: Memory Card Accessory

Now that Apple has taken away my ability to upload photos straight from my camera, I have to rely on these little things. This worked great right away and I was thrilled because I could use it for all my memory cards. I bought it on January 18th and on June 16th it stopped working.

Great device, recommend

Windows 7 Professional recognizes this reader immediately and adds four new drive letters, one for each card type. The supplied cable supplies the device with data and power, is one meter long and is part of the device. When you insert the card, the Kingston logo will light up and blink several times. The SD slots fit snugly and there's no click to indicate you're done inserting like you might be used to with other devices. Looks like a great little device but the quirky nature of the blinking…

Error 0x80070057 Wrong parameter on first attempt to transmit

I have a Lexar Professional Reader but was planning to buy a Kingston to put in my travel bag. The reader arrived today and I took some pictures on the CF card. Plug the card into the reader and plug the reader into my USB 3.0 ports and the reader flashed for about a minute before Windows gave me error 0X80070057. It was a newly built computer so my first thought was that it might be something from the PC. I took the same card and popped it into my Lexar Professional, which I use almost every…

That does not work. for memory card accessories

Device connected to both powered and non-powered USB 3 ports on my desktop. It is not recognized when I insert a memory card. I plug the device in and the Kingston label flashes, which means it has power. I insert a memory card and nothing happens. I click my folders and it doesn't register when I paste the store. I went to the Kingston website but there are no drivers for it. The Troubleshooting section says to plug the device into a powered USB port, which is what I did. Still nothing. Went…

Dead on arrival at Computers & Accessories

I think I received a defective unit. Looked perfect but didn't mount SD cards which could be read in my old cheaper slower SD reader. The first PC was a desktop running Windows 10. The USB 3 mobo port recognized and mapped 4 empty drive letters, but didn't recognize any of the 3 SD cards (2GB, 16GB, 32GB), despite the obnoxious red Kingston -Logo flashed within 60 seconds of insertion. "Please insert a disc into the removable disk slot". blah. The second computer was a laptop running Windows 7.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Excellent card reader with one major (but manageable) flaw

I REALLY like this reader. It's super fast, the light on top is cool, and it even works with microSD cards, so I can pop the card in straight from a Samsung phone without an adapter. However, I've had this reader for seven days and just bent one of the pins in the compact flash slot, rendering the slot completely inoperable. I run a product photography studio and all of our photographers insert CF cards into our cameras dozens of times a day and in the last ten years we have NEVER bent a pin on

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Bad experience

Fast, reliable build, good price EDIT: DO NOT BUY

It works as advertised, has a good sense of reliability and the card slots feel nice and accurate rather than sloppy. Definitely worth its price. EDIT: I used this device about a week ago and it didn't read the chip. I took the chip out again and the light on the device just kept flashing like it did when I first turned it on. I unplugged it to try plugging it back in and when I unplugged it a message appeared on my screen saying jump to USB. Disconnecting the device caused a power surge that…

Doesn't work with L2 USB hub

When connected to the L2 hub I have for the reader I have a blazing fast 10Mbps. That's over 10 hours for a 32GB card, so that's not good. I have a Macbook Pro with only Thunderbolt 3 ports that can be used with USB-C. The reader is USB 3. So I plugged it into a main USB 3 hub that comes straight from the Thunderbolt port. This gave me close to the advertised 500Mbps. So it works and works well, just not with secondary hubs. Since I would have to remove the backup drive to use this card reader,

Easily Fix Bent Pins in a Belkin Compact Flash Card Reader

I have a Belkin FCR-H53 Multifunction Card Reader, but this guide will likely work for similar models. The FCR-H53 reader is fast and convenient. It reads and writes at USB 3.0 speeds and can work with more than one card at a time (e.g. transfer files from SD card to CF card), which not all readers can do. I use my reader exclusively for CompactFlash and SD cards - mostly for CompactFlash. The big problem that many people talk about is that the pins inside the compact flash slot are easily…

Faster than my systems with built-in card readers

Kingston's high-speed media reader is just that, high-speed. With a USB 3 connection, it can transfer files from your memory cards much faster than most computers with built-in media readers. I have a couple of Dell computers that have 19-in-1 media readers built in and I use them for SD. and CF cards, but have always found them to be quite slow when transferring files. The Kingston Reader is much faster, which seems like a minor anomaly. I would have thought that the reader built into the…
