Review on Leviton 47603-DP6: Compact Combo Bridged Phone & ๐Ÿ”Œ Data Board with 6-Way Video Splitter - Ultimate Connectivity Solution by Mark Jefferson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Suitable for a small home

Leviton manufactures telephone/video panels in various combinations that serve as connecting devices. If you have a wiring harness in your basement, these boards provide a level of standardization and organization that you may be lacking. This particular model includes a 6-way coaxial video splitter, a bridge for four phone lines going to four different locations, and a bridge for four Cat 5e voice/data ports also going to four different locations. The combination is somewhat interesting, as it's unlikely that your house has six different TV cable outlets but only four telephone outlets. Another interesting point is the extent to which you use wires for anything other than TV wires, since these days you can make your entire computer network and home phone network wireless. Also, a six-way video splitter is just a splitter, not an amplifier; So if you really want to split an incoming cable line into six different outputs, you'll probably find that the overall signal strength is insufficient without an additional amplifier on the line. I'm also a bit concerned about the cost of this device. Six-way video splitters range in price from just over $1 to around $40 with very little variation in quality. Connections for Cat 5E and telephone wiring can be emulated with a series of hard connections - ugly but certainly adequate for the purpose. Ultimately, what you're paying for here is the convenience of having both sets of connectors arranged on an attractive plastic backing that easily mounts to a wall or perforated panel. This board comes with two sets of instructions, neither of which are specific to this machine. The first sheet for the Leviton telephone and video panel. This sheet describes a 1x9 bridge phone module when we have a 1x4 module. The second sheet is for a Cat5e board and indicates that you can route and terminate up to six cables, while this board only allows four. The whole assembly comes with a taped schematic which can help with troubleshooting if problems arise in the future. After all, this board does exactly what it's supposed to do. The wiring connects all the works and the installation is easy. There are no quality issues to speak of and the unit comes with everything needed to complete the wiring. The overall three-star rating is based on the somewhat high price for the task performed and the lack of device-specific training material. Also, I would like to reiterate that splitting the incoming cable signal into more than 3 or 4 channels may require additional amplification to maintain signal quality.

  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
