Without reading first I figured that was the purpose of the magnets. It's just to keep them together. I've seen people tape stands to the bottom of their laptops. I have large coasters both at work and at home, but if they are mobile they will be difficult to transport. This is ideal when travelling. Either in your laptop bag or in your trouser pocket. They keep my laptop at a solid and adequate height. The angle helps with typing and of course the increased airflow outdoors. The only thing I don't like is that the rubber surfaces attract dust.
