Review on Van Heusen 18.5 37 XXL by Peter Mendoza

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best Van Heusen we have ever bought!

U-la-la. and yes, I'm talking about a men's shirt! Part of a business suit in every way, this beautiful and well-made button-down shirt from Van Heusen is designed to make a name for itself in the business world. However, I came home to my husband unbuttoned and even looking a little disheveled - and I can say the unbuttoned was just as impressive as a slouchy shirt! Give the hybrid a business/sloppy business-casual attitude all in one! This button-down model meets the standard expectations that we have come to expect from the Van Heusen brand. it was measured in all departments on command; Sleeve, neck, shoulder and body length are fine. It's a regular/slim fit, but don't let that put you off. as it simply boils down to eliminating excess material while still leaving enough room for comfort. This is great for a permanent staple in a business person's closet. The minimalist colors, patterns or designs they offer are only there to enhance the wardrobe essentials. In any case, they are not flashy or fashionable, which makes it possible to wear them for 1, 2, 3+ years. from now on. and that is an absolute plus! A small change adds a subtle difference to a monochromatic business shirt wardrobe. but won't scream fashionable if you wear it after 2 years! How do you do that.? The fabric is pre-treated with some magical voodoo to keep it stain-resistant, and yet it's all finished without feeling like anyone's wearing a tent tarpaulin or canvas?! It's amazing and I would love to pre-treat my whole house with this magic. my husband works in security but it is not uncommon for him to wear a hard hat and steel toed boots when he visits his physical jobs which take him to places like; Military bases, universities, FBI test sites, underground bunkers, oil pipelines and oil refineries. You have the idea! His job is to deal with plans and meetings in a conference room, so he has to dress accordingly. But he gets to work just as quickly. and I'm shocked at how well it does at preventing stains! Personally, we only wash BC shirts professionally. $ is covered by his company! However, I would not hesitate to process at a cool temperature and touch up with an iron if needed. For a classic shirt, it looks solid and doesn't require delicate handling. and to me it shows solid craftsmanship. Alternating with other dress shirts, this can take quite a while. For reference, my husbands are 6'4", 205lb, 36x36, 16.5 neck, 35+ sleeves. I hope this information helps you decide... Feel free to let me know!

Pros
  • The neck is too small!
Cons
  • May not be strong enough to withstand frequent wear and tear
