Make sure you install it the easy way!

I just installed this on my 2017 LEAF. A quick YouTube search reveals some short videos on where the cabin air filter is located and how to replace it. Let me start with an important fact: you can do this setup. It's not difficult. I'm far from a mechanic, but a quick search and a guide is all you need. Any beginner like me can handle it. You don't have to disassemble your car's dashboard (as some crazy videos suggest). If you pay someone more than the cost of the filter + $10, you're probably wasting money. It's very easy once you see how it's done and try it. So, start a video on YT and get to work. I just want to add a small installation tip. The gram on this filter is thick. He bends badly. You have to push this hard filter and your hand in a narrow space. You can do it the hard way (like I did first) or you can do it the easy way. Here's an easy way: take an extra minute and remove the plastic bezel at the bottom of the glove box (many videos show this and recommend it. Do it, don't miss it). After that you will get an easier angle to insert the filter into its housing. DO NOT try to push the filter through the glove box. With this hard filter it is almost impossible to hit the housing at a right angle. Other videos show you can go through the glove box because their filter flexes better than this one. This filter doesn't bend well, so save yourself the hassle. I spent 40 minutes sliding the filter through the glove box. Removing the plastic panel under the glove box freed up a lot more room to work and I nailed it in 5 minutes. One last note when you get to the step where you open the filter housing: two tabs and the lid will pop out. This does not apply to my 2017 LEAF. This plastic cap had a deep tongue so I had to reach back to get it out. I was looking for tabs that are 0.5 inch long. The single tab turned out to be about 3 inches long. Once you find the tab, just apply a little pressure with your fingers (no tools required) and it should pop out. The filter looks good. Activated with charcoal. When installed it was heavily worn and not cracked, so well made. Do it yourself and save money!
