Review on Stanley 16 401 Bailey Chisel Set: 5-Piece Must-Have for Professional Woodworking by Nathaniel Collins

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not worth my time and money.

I sent it back as soon as I opened the box. I'm new to hand tools and was trying to make economical yet informed decisions about a few things I needed to buy and these chisels were one of them. As everyone says, machine marks are very deep and I'm sure a specialist could fix them, but it seemed like a daunting task for someone still perfecting the art of chisel sharpening. The handles are bulky but they felt pretty good in my bear paws, but what I couldn't handle at all was that the handles weren't straight; The flats on the handles are nowhere near parallel to the blade, which strikes me as something that can be a nightmare when trying to make square cuts. I've watched a million videos and read a million reviews, but after trying to use them I realized that for an additional $50-75 you could get a much better set of chisels and spend a lot less time. customize them. Do yourself a favor, don't skimp on the little things. I settled on a Kirchen Two Cherrys 6-piece set for $129. Much more joy with this decision.
