We live in a city where city water tastes (and smells) bad. We didn't test it for lead, arsenic, or other contaminants, but the taste itself is unacceptable. Tried to use Brita filters but the taste was unacceptable. The Aquagear jugs and their filters did it - the water tastes clean and clear. With Aquagear jugs, do not overfill the jug. It can be refilled if there is still some filtered water in the pot. I think that the total volume of filtered and unfiltered water shouldn't raise the water level far above the bottom of the filter, because then the unfiltered water can't flow through the filter. There is no indication that you poured too much water. If you overfill it, some unfiltered water will be trapped when you empty the jug. The filter works acceptably fast if it is still usable. When water starts to pass through very slowly, it's time to change the filter. Our original filter lasted almost 4 months (there are only two of us in the house and we only drink filtered water). It was a pleasant surprise for us to be able to get a replacement filter so quickly - 1 day free shipping. with the Prime Minister. No need to stock up on replacement filters.
