I bought these pencil cases for a school project where I needed a lot of them. They're not very good for pencils. I tried using pre-sharpened pencils but the tip ended up poking through the mesh and was able to break it. Not good for kids. Luckily I had a school/class requirement for both the bag and the box so I put the pens in the box and the markers, erasers and pens (with caps) in the mesh pocket. It worked. So consider what you are using it for - if nothing is sharp or pointy I would recommend it - but not for sharp objects as they will pierce.
