This call recorder was one of the most expensive devices I considered for this purpose. I don't need an app based route where calls are recorded on a third party server and I was looking for a physical device to control the recordings. I read a lot of reviews about this call recorder - Techerific's "DeciVibe" - and finally decided to give it a try for two main reasons: a long (50 years!) warranty and what I consider top-notch, responsive, useful. Service. When it arrived I immediately charged it up, played around with the settings and tested the recording abilities. Here's what I found: PERFORMANCE PRO: Recording with the included headphone mic WORKS REALLY WELL. I placed the headphones with microphone in one ear, held the iPhone to the same ear during the test call, and pressed the record button. There was a slight delay of about 2-3 seconds, but then it started and recorded the conversation from both sides until I hit the stop button, after which it automatically saved the recording to a file. Recording was sharp and clear on both sides, and playback was effortless. I wanted to give 5 stars for that. But. VS PERFORMANCE: (note the plural) 1. As others have pointed out in the low star reviews, the buttons are really unintuitive. I didn't have much of a problem as I've been into audio equipment for a while and followed the instructions strictly. But I could understand why people had trouble navigating the buttons. (minus 1 star)2. In honor of Techerific, they have repeatedly stated that their write-through feature is experimental and may not work with all phones. The end-to-end setup was tricky (although all the necessary accessories were included in the box) and required connecting via an adapter supporting iPhone audio, binaural in-ear headphones and a lavalier mic with a call recorder connects. I made the connections as shown in the attached instructions. Unfortunately, he didn't record anything except my voice. Since my iPhone is an iPhone 6S+ (missed for a while), I expected iPhone compatibility to be tested and guaranteed, but it turns out that wasn't the case. Because of the time-consuming setup and incompatibility with the iPhone, I'm deducting another star. I feel like I could get the same reduced functionality in other devices sold at Revain for a lower price. Definitely I will continue to use DeciVibe to record phone interviews with the microphone and headphone setup. I will edit this review if I have anything to add.
