A cat fits comfortably in all the photos, so I bought it with the expectation that only one of the cats could use it. I wanted something more unique than the usual comforters/plush beds to get the cats interested, especially since they already love to sit in boxes. It was fun installing because it kept trying to roll itself up, but I was just as concerned. that it collapses as soon as cats try to get in or out, but once it's on the ground it's pretty stable. The holes go all the way down, so be careful if you try to put catnip on it, it will fall to the ground. However, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that two of my cats fit in it. Since nothing keeps the inner circle closed (just the rubber bands at the outer end), it can continue to expand. So far it's been fine to shrink back to a smaller shape when carrying a cat, and there's been no sign of stress when both cats are on it. It's in a house with 4 cats and there seems to be a cat on it every minute since I put it down. One gets out and the other immediately takes his place. I bought three different beds (this cardboard one, plush one and box one) and this is her favorite. Absolutely happy with it! I'm thinking of buying a second one so they can share better!
