Skip that pump! - Replacement parts

Good. I give an overview and take into account that I have been a mechanic and also an aircraft mechanic for over 34 years. I bought this pump because I recently bought a boat that has been sitting for 4 years, there was bad fuel in the tank, most of it evaporated, need I say more? My better half put about 30 gallons of gas in it so now I have a problem! I had it pump out the fuel, or at least add a fuel additive and circulate it through the tank. Here's the first problem, the screw on the metal filter with the serrated nipple is only screwed in 3, maybe 4 turns before it tightens. So I tightened it by hand and pushed it back in. I now have a 12 foot new fuel line. I didn't install a new 5/16 rubber fuel line when I had to pull it out to insert a clamp and the 1/8-27 NPT brass insert popped out! Exactly as others have said! Now this brass insert is splined, has a small O-ring and is pressed into the plastic body. Ooooh if it popped out that easily I imagine if I put teflon tape on the filter and twisted it it would probably screw the brass insert in the plastic pump housing. Not good. Now I put it back in place and used it with 2 in line filters to pump fuel from the boat tank through the feed line through the 2 filters and pump it back into the fuel tank for 3 hours until it comes out. clean BUT I will add that this pump will NOT pump out fuel when it is only 2ft above the fuel level in the tank unless you lower it to fill and then raise it. The river, uh, not that big. 3 hours after each fill up and a couple of filters the fuel was clean again so it did its job but as a fuel pump on a vehicle I would be appalled if the insert came loose and started a fire and the rest is history! Oh, the red wire on mine was exposed right where it went into the pump. About 1/8 inch of insulation was missing and the bare wire showed fuel again, the positive wire showed, a broken brass insert spelled potential disaster. If I had to do it all over again I would buy an all metal here at Revain. If you use it the way I used it and got this one I'd be done with it. Pull out the insert as soon as you receive it as it is clean and empty, paste CA medium model airplane glue into the slot and reinstall, install the fuel filter with minimal teflon tape, thread sealant is even better . Insert a pipe with a clamp and never hope to remove it, ever! If the rubber hose should come loose, cut it off. and install it as if you were to pull this filter out, eventually you will, you guessed it, the brass insert will pop! Do yourself a favor and get one made of metal! I wanted to return it and missed the return deadline by 2 days.
