This grate was advertised as "DURABLE STAINLESS STEEL, STURDY CONSTRUCTION: The cooling grate is made of food-grade, high-quality stainless steel, which is durable and resistant to rust. "I think it's actually galvanized stainless steel. The stand looks very shiny even where the wires are welded and is strongly attracted to the magnets. While some types of stainless steel are highly magnetic, the most common types that come into contact with food are not. I wondered if it was actually plated steel, so I put it in the dishwasher to see if it would rust due to plating imperfections. And so it was. Although the rust spots were very small, the stainless steel shelf did not rust anywhere after being washed in the dishwasher. The attached photo shows a spot of rust where the paneling has been scraped off. There are a few small scratches on the cables and I believe they were on the stand when I received it. While the rust spots are small now, I expect more after use. I wonder if it's even made of food contact materials? It looks like there is a layer of copper between the outer coating and the steel of the wires. I'm rating this product 1 star due to false advertising. If the stand was really stainless steel I would give it 4 stars. It fits my half pan really well and I like the close spacing between the wires. My only other complaint is that some of the posts and support wires were slightly bent when I received them. It's not clear if this was due to manufacturing tolerances or shipping, but I was able to set everything by hand.
